Unit 1: COM-COMmunity

24 01 2008

When think of a topic to write the first entry for this blog, I suddenly discovered that this COM blog  assignment itself exactly matches the Properties of Communication.

·      Communication is symbolic:

My effort put into building this blog will be a symbol to the lecturer which shows that I have taken this course seriously and do enjoy doing so. More importantly, it also reflects how well I understand the concepts or theories that have been discussed in class.

·      Communication is a process:

For me, blogging is like a process of cooking. Everything should be done step-by-step. It is a process of read, watch, and collect information then I have to interpret them with my knowledge about the concepts as well as refer to my old experience.

·      Communication is continuous:

Yes, I think composing a blog definitely requires a lot of patience. You have to continuously update with different sources of news in other to write a good piece of entry. Contribution to the small com-community by comment on each other’s blog is also has to be done continuously.

·      Communication is systemic:

I am the main participant of my blog, but it does not mean that I am the only one. Instead, my classmate will as well participant into the com101-community by read and comment on my entries.

In personal, I do not like blogging. I do have a Y! 360 blog, but I set it as private and treat it as my E-diary since self-disclosure to the public is not what I aim for when create my blog. I guess that is because of my characteristics. Since I blog for my goods only, blog to get good grade sounds a little bit weird for me. Mostly because in my definition, Communication = Interaction between individuals or objects.  I later found out through the lectures that my definition is only a part of the properties of communication: Communication is transactional. ‘Transactional’ means both, the sender and the receiver of information, are communicators. And this is best reflected in face-to-face communication.

In this case, even though blogging does reflect some interaction between student-teacher, student-student, it has not shown an effective, ‘transactional’ communication.

Anyway, I will do my best to make this blog not a waste-of-time for whoever visits mine. I promise good and interesting information will flow through out the entire entries of this blog. So kindly visit my blog and do leave some lines so I know you are interested.

Thanks =)
